Meeting called to order at 8:00 pm in the Cheverly Community Center.

Jennifer Daniels we had a great time this year and we utilized the opportunity to donate any extra revenue back to the community. We have 4 checks tonight for: The American Legion Auxiliary, St. Vincent DePaul Society Food Bank, Help by Phone Food Pantry at Cheverly United Methodist Church and Cheverly Parents Resource Center.
Joseph Pruden took a moment to provide a few words about former resident and former County Executive Wayne Curry upon his passing this week.

Town Administrator’s Report
Mr. Warrington I would like to note that the builder on the Joslyn Street development will be moving equipment in this week and will be constructing his model house next week.
CM Thorpe I would like to know how the Town handles houses that appear to be abandoned and what are the limits as to what the Town can do?
Mr. Warrington the Town does not distinguish between abandoned and occupied homes when it comes to Code Enforcement. We will enforce the Town Codes regarding peeling paint and tall grass and other exterior violations equally. We do have some properties that are not lived in and the Code Enforcement Officer makes sure that these homes are checked on a periodic basis. If violations go uncompleted, we will take measures to correct the problem and lien the property for the repairs or work. We don’t want people to be able to pick out the unoccupied proeperties.
CM Eldridge could you tell me the Town’s roll when it comes water running from one private property to another private property?
Mr. Warrington Mr. Torres will go out as the Town’s building inspector to look at these things. If you are diverting your gutters or sump pump on to your neighbor’s property we will get them to bring them forward. If it is just topography, then there is nothing we can do as water does flow downhill.
Chief’s Report
Chief Robshaw couple of things tonight. Our crime rate continues to trend down and we are utilizing our task force to work the streets, particularly the 202 corridor and theft from autos. We have been writing a lot of tickets and making a number of arrests. This is being funded via SHA funding to cover this overtime. The downside is we have a single officer during the weekdays after 1am. Second, this Newsletter contains a very important phone number in the Police section 301-789-5090, which from 6pm to 6am seven days a week a Cheverly Officer will be carrying this phone. This phone is report a crime in progress, to report a suspicious vehicle or circumstance, an emergency situation such as a traffic accident/tree down/wire down, solicitors, to obtain a vehicle release or provide
a tip on a previous crime. What I don’t want it to be used for is a routine call for service, a 911 situation, or what is going on with an investigation. I want it to be used for the Police to arrest an offender or deter a crime. The phone will not be answered if we are on a call for service and you cannot leave a message, you should call 301-352-1200, which is the normal dispatching call center. We just purchased our new Tasers and I want to thank Clarence Carter who had a resource that saved the Town a good deal of money and allowed us to get our computers back out on the street at a fraction of the needed repair costs. We are also working with the apartments to see if we can set up a commercial parking section to make a designated area to allow parking and keeping it legal. We are partnering this year with the American Legion as our food source for Public Safety Day. We want to keep our business local and we are looking forward to
working with them.
CM Cook what is happening with the problem of people parking and loitering in the Shopping Center after hours?
Chief Robshaw we have been working with the management company and will now be issuing tickets for vehicles parked there during the late night hours. It is private property issue and we will hopefully address this issue via the ticketing process.

Cheverly Day Report
CM Thorpe we have decided to do Cheverly Day on the third Saturday of every May.
Green Infrastructure Committee
Mayor I did attend the meeting on Monday evening. There will be a rain barrel workshop in September. There will be an invasive clean-up next Saturday in the Cheverly Nature Park.
Planning Board Report
CM Eldridge they did not meet this week and there is potential that they will meet next week, but vacations are getting in the way of scheduling.

Mayor and Council Announcements
CM Riazi the July 19th invasive clean-up will run from 9-noon and we will have refreshments and you will need to bring your own tools if possible. We are looking for anyone interested in helping with the Ageing in Place project.
CM Coolen we had a successful ribbon cutting at the Euclid Park playground and the other was for the project at the old Tuxedo Fire Station for New Horizons to provide job skills for persons with disabilities. The Market will be Saturday morning from 8-Noon.
CM Cook I would like to remind people that the Cheverly Peace Camp is about to begin and you can get in touch with joycelange@verizon.net if you are interested.
Mayor we have questions as to when 64th Avenue will be paved and it will happen before September. We had a free little library installed at Gast Park for children. I remind everyone to pick-up your pet waste and keep your dog on a leash. I ask everyone in Town to obey the speed limits and stop at stop signs. On the Worksession agenda we will discuss: Raising the 15mph speed limit on Joslyn Place, discussion of Joslyn Place development, Evaluation of Department Heads, a speaker from Verizon and a speaker from the Tax Department.
Second Reading O-5-14 Amending the Speed Camera Portion of the Town Code
Mr. Warrington these are changes to our Ordinance to bring us into compliance with what the State Legislature did to amend the speed camera legislation that was passed several years ago.
Mayor we are making changes in front of Spellman regarding school traffic.
Mr. Warrington we will no longer allow any stopping on 63rd to let junior in or out of your car. We will try to educate people in the first few weeks and then we will be issuing tickets in an attempt to improve the flow when school starts and is let out.
Adoption R-3-15 Adoption 2015 Municipal Grant Collaboration Agreement
Mr. Warrington this is a grant application that 19 other municipalities are involved in and they are requesting that each municipality pass a resolution of endorsement and mail it to the Prince George’s County Department of Housing and Community Development.
